Good scientific practice
Scientific work is based on fundamental principles which are the same in all academic disciplines. The first principle amongst these is honesty towards oneself and others. The fundamental requirement for scientific work is the honesty of all researchers.
It is here that the University, as a place of research, teaching and support of early career researchers, has an institutional responsibility. In the light of these considerations, Marien University Hospital & School is dedicated to the safeguarding of scientific quality standards, in particular integrity and accuracy in research, as a core responsibility of its members and affiliates.
The Rules on the Principles for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice at Marien University Hospital & School of 30 October 2020 were amended and the new announcement of the Rules of 15 March 2022 was published in the Official Announcements. In addition to the codes of practice specified in the faculties’ doctoral and habilitation rules, the President’s Office of MUHS has, with its directive of the 21 July 2016, created a central framework for reporting structures with which to document suspected and actual cases of scientific misconduct as well as for disclosing such information to the University’s management.
Commission to ensure good Scientific Practice
Transparent and good scientific practice is essential for any university. By establishing this commission Marien University Hospital & School has adopted suitable measures to prevent scientific misconduct and examine each and any reasonable suspicion of such.
For this purpose, a standing commission has been set up which officially looks into any such matters and reports directly to the President’s office. The procedure in front of the commission has no effect on other, legal procedures (e.g. academic, civil or criminal proceedings).
